Love Hate star gives Yes side a shove

Laurence Kinlan of LoveHate

Ireland’s first ever emoji URL is being used to launch a brand new film created by Irish International and Sweet Media, in support of a Yes vote on May 22, featuring actor Laurence Kinlan, who plays Elmo in Love Hate, and available to view at www.idontknow.ie  The film was written to help cement the “soft yes” voters and to convert some of the undecideds to vote yes.

In the film, Kinlan’s character talk about all of the things that he doesn’t know about his life and his ambitions. He doesn’t know the secrets to love or if he’ll ever have the courage to pop the question – or if marriage is even something he’ll ever do. But one thing he does know – equal should mean equal and everyone deserves the same chance at happiness.

A website outlining some of the existing inequalities between marriage and civil partnership was created to support the film’s message www.idontknow.ie. The team at Irish International and Sweet Media included writer Des Kavanagh, creative directors Dylan Cotter and Kirk Bannon, head of advertising Dena Walker and producer Andy Bradford.

Juniper Calder at Screen Scene was the editor and Mark Richards did the sound mix at Mutiny. All the work was done on a pro bono basis. People searching on their mobiles to visit the film’s website, should type either www.👬.ws or www.👭.ws into the browser on their phone, making this the first time that anyone in Ireland has used emoji in a URL.

A poll by PR agency Thinkhouse reported that while 90 per cent of 18-35s said they would vote yes to change the Constitution in favour of marriage equality, only 55 per cent intended to cast their vote.   When asked ‘How many referendums are taking place on May 22nd?’, one in five of those surveyed assume we are only voting on one referendum, not two.

The other vote is about lowering the age of eligible presidential candidates from 35 to 21.
