McCann replaces Denieffe at INM

Independent News & Media (INM) has appointed Ed McCann as its new group managing editor on the retirement of Michael Denieffe (pictured). The appointment takes place with immediate effect. Denieffe has been with Independent Newspapers  in Ireland for almost 45 years. During that time, he was group news editor, Evening Herald editor, pre-press manager and IT director.

In recent years, he served two terms as a newspaper industry representative on the Press Council. McCann joined INM in 2003, having worked for the Daily Mirror, Irish News and Andersonstown News. In his 12 years at INM, he has worked as associate editor with the Irish Independent and operations editor and deputy editor at the Belfast Telegraph.

He was on secondment at the Cape Argus in South Africa in 2012. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Queen’s University, as well as a post graduate diploma in newspaper journalism and an master of arts in modern history.
