Rory McIlroy has been confirmed for the 3 Irish Open golf tournament being played over the Killeen course in Killarney at the end of July. The 21-year-old Belfast golfer is now ranked number nine in the world and he broke through on the PGA Tour by winning the Quail Hollow Championship at the start of May.
The 3 Irish Open has a prize fund of €3 million and is in the top three regular tournaments on the PGA European Tour outside of the Majors and the World Golf Championships. Philip Reid of The Irish Times said that only the PGA and the Dunhill Links offer players higher purses.
The 3 Irish Open will run from July 29 to August 1.
