Meteor moves to Rothco

Meteor Pay As You Go

Mobile phone company Meteor has appointed Rothco to handle its creative advertising. The Eircom-owned operator also asked Boys and Girls, Ogilvy and the incumbent, Publicis, to pitch but soon narrowed the review down to three agencies. Up to now, Meteor has used offbeat and sometimes zany ads to target youths.

The Meteor review follows the controversial loss of both Vodafone and 02 creative accounts to London agencies. Vodafone moved from DDFH&B-JWT to Grey, while O2 left Rothco for VCCP. DDFH&B-JWT has since been appointed by Eircom and eMobile. 3 mobile is handled by McCann Erickson.

The move comes as 02 owner Telefonica heavily targets Irish youths with its 48 Months’ Go Conquer offer.
