Tubridy to replace Ryan on 2FM

RYAN TUBRIDY

Ryan Tubridy is to replace his old mentor Gerry Ryan as host of the mid-morning slot on 2FM from the end of August. Tubridy’s broadcasting career in RTE began on the Full Irish Breakfast on 2FM. Ryan’s slot was three hours till noon but Tubridy’s show will run for an hour less due to his Late Late Show commitments.

In a statement from RTE, Tubridy said he had a “long, hard think” when the offer was made to him by RTE management. He had said that the one-hour slot on RTE Radio 1 was rather restrictive and that he had other ambitions. His salary will stay the same. In 2008, Tubridy earned €533,333, up by almost 50 per cent on 2007.

Gerry Ryan died suddenly from a suspected heart attack on April 30th.
