Laura Daley is joint managing director at JWT Folk. She was previously managing director of DDFH&B and group account director at TBWA\Dublin. She also spent over seven years in client service at Ogilvy and almost three years at Havas Worldwide Dublin. She has a BA in politics and history from CD and an MSc in advertising from DIT Aungier Street, now TU Dublin.
01 When are you happiest?
Sitting down to lunch on the first day of holiday – family, sun and a cool glass of white wine
02 What’s your most treasured possession?
My husband, my son and a jumper that belonged to my Dad
03 Your social media platform of choice?
04 Worst job you’ve ever done?
Working in a 40 clove sandwich bar in Candlestick Park Stadium in San Francisco on my J1 many moons ago. The reek of garlic off me was something else
05 What ambitions do you still have?
My ongoing business ambition is to continue to deliver outstanding work that grows client business
06 Favourite writers?
I’ve been in a book club for nearly 20, so have lots – Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Rohinton Mistry, Gregory David Roberts and John Boyle, being but a sample. My recent favourite read was Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
07 A film you’d watch again tonight?
Being a big fan of mini-series as opposed to films, It would probably be Scandi thriller like The Killing or my current addiction Chernobyl, gripping but hard to watch
08 What do some people think about you that isn’t true?
That I’m from the southside of Dublin
09 What keeps you awake at night?
My five-year-old who’s going through a phase of having nightmares
10 Which words do you overuse?
“To be honest”
11 Favourite ad?
KFC-FCK. Also belted survivors for the NZ Transport agency
12 Favourite gadget?
Apart from my laptop, my Airpods. I, still feel a bit ridiculous wearing them at times but I’d be lost without them
13 A brand experience that disappointed you?
Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner, the battery life is so poor
14 What living person do you most admire?
My mum, she’s been through so many challenges in her life but is remains resilient and strong. A great confidante for us all. I’d be lost without her
15 Most embarrassing experience?
Too many to mention, most of them related to my driving
16 Your idea of hell on earth?
Camping
17 What would be your fantasy act of heroism?
Finding a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
18 You’re on a dating app, what’s your opening line?
I’ve been with my husband since we were both 18 so I wouldn’t know where to start
19 Someone or something that strikes you as beautiful?
Apart from my sons smile every morning, I love looking over Dublin Bay from the end of Dun Laoghaire pier on a sunny day while eating a Teddys’ ice cream
20 You’re on Death Row, what’s your last meal?
A large Big McMac meal, followed by a bag of Haribo Tangfastics
