Having turned professional, one of Ireland’s top tennis prospects is in the market for a sponsor. Ranked as the country’s top ladies’ singles player since her early teens, Jenny Claffey, 25, has set herself a five-year plan. In that time, she aims to make the world’s top 200 players next year and become the first Irish woman ever to compete at Wimbledon Championships by 2019. She also hopes to represent Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
She first represented Ireland as a schoolgirl on the 2009 Federation Cup team. In her first three pro tournaments this year, she reached the singles’ semi-finals and won the ladies doubles. A member of the Elm Park club, she has a five-year plan and aims to play professionally for the next 10 years. She told Marketing.ie that to help her climb up the world rankings and play in Grand Slams, she requires funding to enter 25 tournaments a year.
