UPC has appointed OMD to handle its media buying and planning following an international review. Omnicom was one of the major networks, along with WPP’s GroupM and Publicis to pitch for the Liberty Global-owned TV and broadband business. UPC is a big loss to the Dentsu Aegis Network in Ireland as the account was handled by its Carat agency. Carat was asked to compete for the Irish business a few years back and its pitch proved successful.
Adland’s interest in UPC continues as the creative account, currently with Irish International, is also up for review. As well as the incumbent, Cawley Nea\TBWA, Ogilvy and Publicis are set to make presentations. UPC’s head of brand and marketing communications, Meadhbh Quinn, will also see London agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), which handles Liberty Global’s Virgin Media in the UK, present. Agencies will make their presentations next month.
Brian Sparks at Agency Assessments is managing the creative review.
