20 Questions with Keira Kennedy, KDK

Keira KennedyKeira Kennedy set up her KDK fashion business with her sister Dairine five years ago. KDK specialises in unique prints on luxury materials like cashmere and silk. The creations are stocked in Brown Thomas, Avoca and boutiques across Europe. She previously worked for Leinster Rugby for seven years as marketing and commercial manager. She is a graduate of TCD and holds an MSc in marketing from the Smurfit Graduate Business School.

01 When are you happiest?
Trying out a new restaurant with friends, getting on a plane to see a new country, or making pancakes on the weekend with my husband and two kids.

02 Apart from loved ones, what’s your most treasured possessions?
My engagement ring and my granny’s engagement ring. So much love, beauty and memories in two small things

03 Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn?
Instagram is actually my favourite

04 What’s the worst job you’ve ever done?
Conducting market research in a poultry abattoir for my masters

05 Your favourite writers?
Although I’m in a book club, I don’t get much time to read these days

06 Last music you bought?
Beyonce’s Formation and, dare I say it, Justin Bieber’s new album

07 A film you’d watch again tonight?
Out of Africa

08 What do some people think about you that isn’t true?
Probably that I’m high maintenance in terms of fashion but I love bargain hunting for clothes in TK Maxx. With the exception of jewellery, scarves and bags!

09 What keeps you awake at night?
Not achieving enough in my lifetime

10 Which words do you overuse?
Not a word but overuse of exclamation marks. Sounds like I’m forever shouting!

11 Your favourite ad?
The Hermes print ads are clean and striking

12 Your favourite gadget?
My iPhone, without a doubt

13 A brand experience that disappointed you?
Aer Lingus closing the check-in gates 15 minutes before they were meant to causing my sister Dairine and me to miss our flight home from a trade show in Paris

14 What living person do you most admire?
I really admire mothers, working or stay at home

15 Most embarrassing experience?
At Zoe Jordan’s River Island launch I tried on her personal jacket, thinking it was part of the collection, only for her to ask for it back as she had a plane to catch

16 Someone or something that strikes you as beautiful?
The Sugar Loaf in Co Wicklow

17 In what other era would you have liked to have been born?
The future. I wouldn’t want to go back to times when there were no women’s rights, no anaesthetic, limited central heating and only a few showers

18 Best advice you’ve heard?
From an old boss, Conor Hanratty: “Hard work never goes unrewarded”

19 What would be your fantasy act of heroism?
Anything to help free women and children from human trafficking

20 You’re on Death Row, what’s your last meal?
Bunsen Burger… amazing!
