Murray to replace Tubridy on Radio 1

John Murray, host of The Business and part of the Morning Ireland team of presenters on RTE Radio 1, is to take over from Ryan Tubridy when the new autumn season gets underway at the start of September. Tubridy is moving back to 2FM to present the morning slot left vacant by the tragic and untimely death of Gerry Ryan.

Before joining RTE, Murray worked for the Progressive Democrats party and later became part of the Fianna Fáil-led coalition government media relations team. He spent two years in China while his wife, Miriam Donahoe, was based in Beijing for The Irish Times. She now runs her own PR firm, MD Media.

Murray’s appointment follows speculation as to who might replace Tubridy. There had been murmurings that Pat Kenny might agree to an earlier start, which would see his show run until 11am with lighter content in the first hour. There had also been some talk of Kathryn Thomas or Derek Mooney as hosts.
