Baz Ashmawy will be returning to Sky 1 early next year hosting a new quiz show called The Fanatics which has just been commissioned. The series will be produced by Victory Television, a joint venture with Sony Pictures Television (SPT), and has been commissioned by Sky 1 director, Adam MacDonald, as part of prioritising the channel’s 8pm slot. Ashmawy’s reality show 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy, which saw him embark on an adventure around the world with his 71-year-old mother, Nancy, went out on Sky 1 viewers in the UK and Ireland.
Writing in the Sunday Independent business pages, Sarah McCabe reported that Israeli broadcaster Channel X has bought the rights to 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy. It is the latest in a series of international deals for the Irish-Egyptian’s show, which was also acquired by France’s M6, Canada’s Evasion channel, Poland’s Polsat and Choice TV in New Zealand. The value of the deals was not disclosed. Not only does Ashmawy star in the show, but he is also the co-producer through his Churchtown-based production company, Brown Bread Films.
