BBDO Dublin has been appointed the new creative agency of record for the GAA following a five-way competitive pitch process. The Sandymount agency will handle all advertising and creative services for the association. The appointment comes as the GAA embarks on a brand revamp that will see the launch of a new fully-integrated brand campaign next year.
It is understood that the pitch finally came down to a two-way contest with Publicis.
“This is a huge win for us at BBDO Dublin,” Neal Davies, CEO, BBDO Dublin, said. “To be selected as the lead creative agency for the GAA, an organisation that’s such an intrinsic part of Irish culture, is a tremendous honour. That the GAA have bought into our team, and our way of thinking is a real show of faith and we couldn’t be happier.”
Noel Quinn, GAA senior marketing and media rights manager, said 2019 is going to be an exciting year on and off the pitch for the GAA. “We ‘ve worked hard to find a team of creative partners who not only share in our vision, but also in our passion for the GAA and what it really means to people the length and breadth of the country and beyond.”
BBDO has worked with the IRFU and the FAI and on hurling campaigns for Guinness (above).
BBDO Dublin will lead the creation of a new brand platform and integrated campaign covering all competitions, from the GAA All-Ireland Championships to the Allianz Leagues and the AIB GAA Club Championships. The agency will work with the GAA’s in-house marketing team.
The GAA was previously handled by In the Company of Huskies.
