Flahavan’s sows up McDonald’s deal

Flahavan’s is now the exclusive porridge oats supplier to McDonald’s 84 fast food restaurants across Ireland. McDonald’s restaurants are open for breakfast from 7am. McDonald’s sells about 100,000 servings of porridge in Ireland each year and is now targeting 250,000 servings. A consumer survey for Flahavan’s by Empathy Research found that 85 per cent of females regard porridge oats as the healthiest breakfast.

Flahavan’s marketing director John Noonan was voted Marketing.ie Marketer of the Year in 2009.

Last month, McDonald’s awarded a contract to Tipperary bacon producer Dew Valley to supply cooked bacon from Bord Bia quality assured Irish farms. McDonald’s provides 100 per cent Irish beef, bacon, milk, cheese, eggs and water in all its restaurants. McDonald’s helped exports of Irish-origin food produce to its international operations in 2011, including €110 million of Irish beef and €66m of Irish cheese.

McDonald’s total spend on Irish food, restaurants and labour costs amounted to €283.7m in 2011.
