Covid-19 takes its toll on ICAD bells

The Institute of Creative Advertising & Design (ICAD) has become the latest victim of the Covid-19 coronavirus crisis with the news that the annual awards show is postponed until next year, with the institute instead hosting a special exhibition event in November. However, work created in 2020 can be entered for next year’s show for a reduced fee of €25.

ICAD board member Pearse McCaughey said the awards will proceed in a way that responds to the post-pandemic realities. “ICAD 2020 will provide our creative community with something to look forward to, a moment to strive for, a point in the future where we can celebrate the thing that binds us together: Irish creative work,” McCaughey said.

“Many debates were had over the past few weeks how do we celebrate our members’ work in 2020? What will become of the awards programme? Should we do anything, and if we do, how might it address the  realities that face our members? How could we reward the work and maintain a parity so that our members’ output was fully represented?

“It may seem oddly indulgent talking about creative awards during a pandemic, “but the ICAD Awards go beyond an industry backslapping event. For Irish creatives they are an important annual health check on indigenous creative standards and an occasion to foster and reward young creatives,” he added. The award entries are open until June 19.
