In response to the current Covid-19 coronavirus public health crisis, JWT Folk’s executive chairman Gary Brown is calling on the Government to immediately introduce new measures to help frontline medical staff go about their work. In a bid to help stop the infection spread, Brown is also advocating free public transport for workers during off-peak times.
“The Government needs to act now,” Brown said. “Let’s make it easier for our frontline medical staff to go about their work. A nurse or doctor should not have to come out of a 15-hour shift to find their car clamped or with a ticket. Yet this is happening. So let’s give them all a permit that allows them free parking in hospitals and places of work.”
At a time when our lives are very dangerous and different, Brown is also calling for free public transport and toll-free roads and bridges. It would encourage flexible working times and more off-peak travel which could alleviate mass congestion on trains, buses, Luas and Dart services. Packed public transport is a petrie dish for this infection, Brown said.
“A time like this needs us to do different things. Right now we totally rely on the brave people who are our front line medical and care workers. Brave nurses, doctors, medical assistants, ambulance and fire crew workers as well as the Garda and our Defence Forces. We need to do everything in our power to make it easier for them to save lives,” he added.
Brown admitted that these suggestions cost money, however we live in a society not an economy. Economies bounce back but dead loved ones are gone from us forever.
