Tourism Ireland asks for extra €20m in ad spend

Cross-Border marketing body Tourism Ireland is asking the Government to provide an extra €20 million in advertising spend on top of its annual budget of €45m in a bid to lure international visitors once the Covid-19 pandemic is over. Tourism Ireland started cancelling its international ad campaigns at the start of March when demand began to dry up.

The St Patrick’s Day greening of famous worldwide sites largely went ahead as planned.

Tourism Ireland plans to roll out a major ad campaign later this year. Niall Gibbons, chief executive, Tourism Ireland, said he believes that 2020 is “not a write-off just yet”. The priority right now was to organise State support for the businesses struggling as a result of the crisis. They would then focus on devising recovery strategies to attract overseas visitors.
