Music videos and commercials director and Vaughan Arnell will headline this year’s Sharks festival in Kinsale with a talk on the differences between the two disciplines. Arnell worked with George Michael, Spice Girls and Robbie Williams. His video for Sam Smith’s ‘Dancing with a Stranger’ has got the most YouTube views by a British pop star so far this year.
This year’s four-day Sharks festival starts on Wednesday, September 18.
Grey London chief creative officer Vicki Maguire will look at how our disjointed world will open the path for greatness, ensuring creativity will save the day. Legendary creative director turned consultant Dave Dye also takes to the mic for a talk entitled ‘Advertising Unplugged’. Artist James Burke will explore ‘Three Difficult Truths to Creativity’.
Burke will explain how he overcame barriers to creativity in his installations.
Portrait sculptor Wilfrid Wood will discuss creating well-known heads and figures and the craft of bringing his subjects to life. London Edit House Cut+Run will host a panel with the creators of some of the most artistic music videos in recent memory. They will discuss the trends, challenges and remarkable work characterising the industry today.
Jury president is Mark Denton, creative director at Coy Communications in the UK.
Cinelab London will host a panel of filmmakers to discuss the huge renaissance of creatives shooting on film, covering recent film projects across music, fashion, feature film, episodic and commercials. The changes in festival format focuses on four days activity – with short films, design, music videos on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Saturday’s events will centre around advertising.
Festival director Aisling White (above) said the new format is all about celebrating the key strands of the event – short films, design, music videos and the business of advertising. Winners will be presented their Shark trophies on each of the four days with a mix of talks and winners’ presentations. This year’s entry deadline is Friday, August 30.
