Former Ireland and Munster rugby player Paul O’Connell fronts a new Aldi TV ad for the German discounter’s official licensed Rugby World Cup (RWC) merchandise. A checkout assistant, played by Irish actress Amy Coleman, assists O’Connell as he puts through his shopping but the starstruck girl tells a colleague she has just served “Ronan O’Gara”.
Filmed in Aldi’s East Wall store in Dublin, the ad promotes the range of RWC merchandise on sale in 139 stores around the country. The merchandise includes children’s tops and hoodies, water bottles, adult tops and rugby balls. Made by Speers Production for McCann Manchester, Aldi’s client team was Aldi’s Rita Kirwan, John Curtin and John Anslow.
