US pop star Prince is due to return to Ireland for a 35,000 open-air concert at Malahide Castle on July 30 as part of a European tour. His last performance was at the Point in 2002. He was booked to play at Croke Park in June 2008 but controversially cancelled the concert only 13 days before the show was to go ahead.
Denis Desmond’s MCD sued the 52-year-old artist from Minneapolis and the case was finally settled after a four-day hearing in the Commercial Courts last year. Prince never offered an explanation to MCD or apologised to his fans for the late cancellation. The Malahide gig is organised by John Reynolds’s POD.
Prince is expected to perform a selection of greatest hits from his back catalogue, including Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, Kiss, Cream, Diamonds and 1999. Tickets from €89.50 will go on sale this Friday.
