Ireland has a new national daily newspaper with the launch of The Irish Racing Post. It combines content from the UK edition with extra features for Irish readers only. The paper has weekly supplements covering bloodstock, point-to-pointing and GAA. There is also sports coverage with a strong Irish interest.
Correspondents Tony O’Hehir and Alan Sweetman are part of an expanded editorial team. Among the new features is a weekly column from champion trainer Willie Mullins, a focus on GAA from Nicky English and Colm O’Rourke and Mick Galwey gives his views on Irish rugby.
The Racing Post group of companies has been Irish-owned since October 2007. The Irish edition is headed by managing director Anthony Brady, formerly sales director with Setanta Sports Ireland. The editor is Jonathan Mullin, who was RTE’s GAA correspondent.
