RTE to host mobile journalism conference

RTÉ is to host an international conference on mobile journalism in association with Vodafone. The RTÉ International Mobile Journalism Conference will be the first such conference dedicated to mobile journalism, filmmaking, photography and storytelling. The event will take place in the National Convention Centre on March 27/28.

The not-for-profit RTÉ MojoCon Ireland features international speakers and is aimed at print, radio, online and TV journalists, PR execs and media and journalism students. The event, funded by ticket sales,  is also likely appeal to mobile photography enthusiasts, media executives and members of the public with an interest in mobile and social.

Speakers include Richard Sambrook, professor of journalism and director of the Centre for Journalism at Cardiff School of Journalism, who will outline trends in media consumption, viewership and creation. Gerd Leonhard, author and founder of Green Futurists, will speak on the future of media.

These include wearables, artificial intelligence and algorithmic narratives. Glen Mulcahy (above), innovation lead in RTÉ and conference organiser, says the BBC, Huffington Post, NRK, CNN and Storyful are supporting the event by allowing staff members to join the discussion panel line-ups. Mulcahy said other names will be announced in due course.
