RTE is planning to offer Ireland’s biggest newspaper publishers a chance to host free clips from its TV news bulletins on their websites, The Irish Times reports today. The move is seen as an effort to defuse a row over claims of the national broadcaster’s dominance in the provision of online news services.
The report by Ciaran Hancock claims that RTE’s new director general, Noel Curran, pictured, will make the offer to the National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI). It will involve a six-month pilot scheme where RTE TV news reports in full-clip format would be provided free of charge to Irish newspaper websites.
