The Observer is to reduce in size from seven to four sections and close its sport, music and woman monthly magazines next year in cutbacks announced by publisher Guardian News & Media. The business and personal finance sections will be merged into the main paper.
The travel section will move into the Observer Magazine. The changes will coincide with a redesign, leaving the paper with a news, sport and expanded review section. The only Observer glossy magazine to survive the cull is its food monthly.
