Tourism Ireland is rolling out a campaign targeting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community for weddings and honeymoons in Ireland. Following the ‘yes’ vote in the same sex marriage referendum, the campaign runs in nine markets – including Britain, North America, the Nordic countries, Australia, France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
‘Ireland Says I Do’ includes Facebook ads, directing people to Tourism Ireland’s website, highlighting wedding venues and “dreamily romantic locations to tie the knot”, plus bars and clubs. It also has a video showing Ireland’s scenery and The Outing, the world’s first LGBT matchmaking festival, an offshoot of the Lisdoonvarna festival event in October.
New research unveiled at World Travel Market 2014 showed annual expenditure on travel by LGBT people exceeded US$200 billion for the first time last year. The report showed LGBT Europeans have a total travel spend of just over US$66bn.
