Colm Hayes – real name Colm Caffrey – co-presents the Colm & Lucy show with Lucy Kennedy on Radio Nova weekdays 6am to 10am. He had a 10-year partnership with James ‘Jim-Jim’ Nugent on the FM104’s Strawberry Alarm Clock and on the 2fm breakfast show. He officially joined Radio Nova in 2017 as programme director.
01 When are you happiest?
When I’m chilling out with my family, my wife and 2 kids Alex and Holly. We don’t get together as a unit enough and when we do the worries of the world dissipate
02 Your most treasured possession?
Sir Alex Ferguson gave me his Man Utd rain jacket at the launch of the Red Store in Dublin many years ago. It hangs up in my house and I quite often let Man Utd fans wear it – but only for a few minutes
03 Your social media platform of choice?
Instagram. But I’m fond of the odd tweet every now and then
04 The worst job you’ve ever done?
While in college I worked as a part-time grave digger
05 What ambitions do you still have?
Where do I start? I set myself an achievable ambition every day and I also have a list of ambitions some of which I will never achieve and that’s what keeps me going
06 Favourite writers?
I’m a bit of a bookworm so here goes… John Irving, Graham Greene, Nick Hornby, Tom Sharpe, Richard Ford to name but a few
07 A film you’d watch again tonight?
Cinema Paradiso or LaLa Land. Pure movie magic
08 What do some people think about you that isn’t true?
That I don’t care, but I do, I really do and that I’m French – which I’m not
09 What keeps you awake at night?
The whispering voices of doubt and the stifled screams of lost opportunity. Well, you did ask!

“Stay where you are”. I use it a lot on-air
11 Favourite ad?
The Boots ‘She’s My Mum’ Christmas ad – simple and genius

iPhone

Democracy

Stevie Wonder. We need to listen to him
15 Most embarrassing experience?
Live on-air I gave a box of chocolates to a listener. “Make sure you share them with your partner,” I said to her. “He died last month,” she replied. “More for you then!” I shouted back and then just wished the ground would open up
16 Your idea of hell on earth?
Trumpland, The Theme Park
17 What would be your fantasy act of heroism?
To single-handedly save the UK from the greatest act of political stupidity since the Trojans shouted “Nice horse, let’s wheel it in for the crack”
18 You’re on a dating app, what’s your opening line?
I’m confused, is this Just Eat or Just Date.ie. If its Just Eat I’ll have a 9-inch… if it’s Just Date, I have a 9… (Sorry!)
19 Someone or something that strikes you as beautiful?
I’m an early bird, so the miracle of sunrise always gets me. It’s like we get re-invented every day

Chicken wings with blue cheese dressing from Elephant and Castle and chips
