Focus Ireland and Bord Gáis Energy (BGE) are calling on people throughout Ireland to give one night and sleep out to Shine a Light on homelessness and raise funds to help the charity’s vital services. As a result of the Covid-19 impact on communities across Ireland, the 8,876 people currently without a home are more vulnerable than ever before.
Shine a Light night will take place on the night of Friday, October 16 and this year people are being asked to consider sleeping out in their gardens or homes and company employees to sleep and fundraise at their workplaces. On the same night, business leaders will sleep out at the Law Society of Ireland HQ in Dublin and at Cork’s Spike Island.
Focus Ireland and BGE hope to raise €1.3m this year. Since the event was launched in 2015, Shine a Light has raised over €5.3m for people experiencing homelessness in Ireland.
