BSkyB has appointed JD Buckley as managing director of its Irish operation. He will report to Stephen van Rooyen, managing director of Sky’s sales and marketing in the UK . Buckley, who will be based at Sky’s Dublin office in Earlsfort Terrace, has operated as an independent business consultant for the past four years. During this time, he took on the interim role as chief operating officer at Prontaprint and Kall Kwik.
He also spent several years with Denis O’Brien’s Digicel mobile operation. He was chief executive officer of their Cayman Island business before taking responsibility for the North Caribbean. Mark Anderson, Sky Ireland’s sales and marketing director, will report to Buckley, along with a new customer operations director.
He will also work closely with Mark Deering, Sky’s director of corporate affairs in Ireland. Sky’s dedicated customer contact centre for Irish customers is due to open in August. The new centre in Dublin will enable Sky to serve its Irish customers from one dedicated site for the first time.
Sky services include Sky HD, Sky 3D and Sky Go online and mobile. BSkyB is increasing its Irish content, including the upcoming comedy Moone Boy with Chris O’Dowd, now being filmed in Boyle. Sky Media Ireland has won the contract to handle advertising sales for UKTV’s Dave and Gold channels from July.
