Ogilvy’s Make-a-Wish ‘Josh’ has been named the winner of the NNI Press Ad of the Month award for January. Devised by a team comprising creative director Colin Nimick and copywriter/art director Laurence O’Byrne, the ad’s typography was by Andy Breese and MEC handled the media. The winner was selected by judges Shireen McDonagh of Kick Communications, Pat Stephenson of Boys and Girls and Eoghan Nolan of Brand Artillery.
Stephenson said he was “a sucker” for long copy and he could relate to the ad’s Josh charaacter and what he was going through and he wanted to help. “Advertising that touches you and makes you take action; the winner for me,” Stephenson added. Nolan said the ad was an emotional approach based on the compelling proposition that children with life-threatening illnesses have the same dreams and wishes as healthy children.
‘Josh’ is the first ad into the hat for this year’s NNI awards. It will be joined by the following ads shortlisted in January: ‘Fyffes & Chimps’ by DDFH&B-JWT for Fyffes; ‘Focus’ by Ogilvy for Ford; ‘Rosalie’ by Bloom for Plan Ireland; ‘Northern Lights’ by McConnells for UCD and ‘Skincare/Save 33%’ by DDFH&B-JWT for Vichy.
