New categories added as Shark entries open

The Shark awards presented in Kinsale in September each year have opened for entries. With a focus on craft, the festival has added wider categories for this year’s awards. Prominent design writer and consultant Lynda Relph-Knight will oversee the design category which has been extended to reward design craft. Also new to the programme is an immersive category.

The new category will salute emerging and innovative tech ideas in augment reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and experiential campaigns. It is also the first time that animation has its own category in Kinsale looking at the craft of direction in animation, design, character design and animation VFX. Entries finalised before June 17 earn a 25 per cent concession.

Festival manager Aisling White said the speaking programme will be announced soon.

The jury so far is comprised of an international cast of the top creative minds from Uncommon, Droga 5, McCann, Grey, Serviceplan, Smuggler, We Are Pi, MPC, RiffRaff, The Chase, Rothco, MassiveMusic, ZuluAlpaKilo, BETC, Javelin, Great Guns and ThomasThomas from Dublin, New York, London, Munich, Amsterdam, Paris, Toronto.

The Kinsale Shark awards celebrates Irish and international creativity while encouraging fresh approaches to advertising and media. Now in their 57th year, the awards attract entries from agencies across all continents. Entries in the advertising awards, design, short film and music video categories are open until Monday, September  2.
