To mark Recycle Week, Repak commissioned an art installation made out of recycled plastic collected from the general public on the streets of Dublin and recycled plastic from around the country. The ‘Fantastic Plastic’ sculpture was created by Eoghain Phelan. It is made from plastic drinking and toiletry bottles, airport security trays and old election posters, with a few plastic cable ties thrown in for good measure.
A collection bin was installed in Barnardos Square to allow the public to recycle their plastic and turn it in into something special. What materialised was put on display in Barnardos Square on Dame Street until last Sunday. The campaign was developed by Mediaworks, Source OOH and the Repak marketing team.
Repak’s marketing and communications manager Laura Murphy says 169,000 tonnes of plastic packaging waste is generated every year in Ireland, amounting to 37kg per person.
