The Dublin branch of Samaritans has launched a new website to help manage the higher levels of calls and offers of help that have been received since the economic downturn. Last year, the charity doubled the number of information evenings for prospective volunteers to six, with attendances up on the previous year.
Some 65 new volunteers joined the branch in 2009 and more recruits are scheduled to join the training programmes this year. It costs about €1,000 a day to run the branch and public support is essential. The site is designed by Iperior and hosted by Blacknight, both on a pro-bono basis.
