Slattery Communications, the PR and sports sponsorship agency run by Padraig Slattery, has pulled off a major coup by winning the rights to represent Manchester United’s commercial interests in Ireland. Agencies like Platinum One, run by Fintan Drury, have handled projects for Man United but the Slatterys deal provides exclusive access to Old Trafford while barring them from handling other British clubs.
With the level of support Man United has in this country, the immediate prospects for revenue and market growth would appear strong. The agency’s sports division is headed by James Wynne.
The club starts the new season as favourite to win the Premier League again and some football fans – including neutrals in adland like Liam McDonnell of Aegis – are saying Michael Owen may prove to be the club’s best signing in many years. Owen is expected to partner Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first choice line-up.
Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is expected to be out of action until the end of September after breaking a finger and bone in his left hand.
