Extra funds for UK tourism push

Tourism Ireland is spending an extra €1.5 million on marketing in the UK in the coming weeks to help get more business now and into the early months of next year. The period from September to December normally yields almost a third of all tourism business for Ireland.
The media campaign by JWT comes as the global tourism industry continues to be hit hard by the worldwide downturn. Outbound travel from the UK to Western Europe was down by over 15 per cent between January and July this year, the industry reported.
With support from Dublin Tourism, Aer Lingus, Ryanair and Stena, the spotlight is on Ireland’s culture, festival, food and people with a message of ‘better value than ever before’. Tourism Ireland will launch its 2010 UK campaign in early December.
