The Shark Awards and the Association of Advertisers in Ireland (AAI) have joined forces to host an event called ‘Après Advertising: Where can the skills you learn in advertising and marketing take you next?‘ The evening will see a screening of Donal Moloney’s short film, Ad Men in Sheds, with two of the featured ad men joining the panel to discuss this topic.
On the back label of every Drumshambo Gunpowder Irish Gin bottle, it states in bold type: ‘From The Curious Mind of PJ Rigney’, pictured above on right. Rigney’s mind began getting very curious when he worked for some years in marketing at Gilbeys. His tale about how he went on to create his own famous drinks brands is well worth listening to – over a drink.
Rigney is also a former Marketer of the Year, having jointly won the coveted award with David Phelan for Boru Vodka back in 2000. Rigney will be joined by Barry Devlin, who began as a copywriter at Arks and Peter Owens and went on to become a rock star with Horslips, a writer and a filmmaker. Guests may well need a long drink for Devlin’s tale as well.
Panel moderator for the evening is Orlaith Blaney, former CEO of McCann Dublin and a past president of IAPI. She is now chief communications and marketing officer at Ervia, with responsibility for Irish Water and she will share some of her own views on the topic. The organisers plan to announce other new panellists in the coming days.
The event is in Core’s offices on 1 Windmill Lane, Dublin 2, on Thursday at 6pm on Thursday, November 28. As seats are limited, anyone applying for a free ticket will see their name go in a hat for the chance to win two full delegate passes to the 2020 Shark Awards in Kinsale: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/apres-advertising-tickets-82181528163
