INM merges Sunday World and Herald

Stephen Rae, Evening Herald

Independent News & Media (INM) is to integrate the editorial staff of the Sunday World and The Herald into one new ‘digital first’ seven-day content centre with the loss of 13 jobs through voluntary redundancies. The move is designed to optimise the news offering of both titles and to ensure that INM’s digital offerings will be first with news as it breaks. The print versions of the Sunday World and The Herald will continue as before.

As with The Irish Times, INM reporters will file first to digital. Group editor-in-chief Stephen Rae (above) said the fundamental restructuring of the production and reporting process takes advantage of  new systems, improvements and work-flows that have already been introduced across the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent and The Herald titles. The move is part of INM’s overall group re-organisation.

INM plans to hire 40 new digital staff and recently appointed Lia Bresnihan as its new head of digital marketing, working to group digital editor, Fiona O’Carroll. She joined INM from Yahoo!7 in Australia, a joint-venture between Yahoo! and Seven West Media group, where she was head of consumer marketing. Before joining Yahoo!7, she was head of consumer marketing with News Corporation in Australia.
