Mobile phone company Meteor is seeing agencies as part of a review of its creative advertising activities. The Eircom-owned operator has asked Boys and Girls, Ogilvy, Rothco and its incumbent, Publicis QMP, to pitch. Meteor has embraced offbeat and sometimes zany messages to target its mainly youth market in recent years.
The Meteor review follows the controversial loss of both Vodafone and 02 creative accounts to London agencies. Vodafone moved from DDFH&B-JWT to Grey, while O2 left Rothco for VCCP. DDFH&B-JWT has since been appointed by Eircom to handle its eMobile business. 3 mobile is handled by McCann Erickson.
Meteor is now offering its customers a pre-pay top-up for €5. Meadhbh Quinn, Meteor’s head of brand and marketing communications, said customers want more from their mobile service provider and are anxious to see their money go further. The €5 top-up ties in with the brand’s ‘Everyone gets something’ campaign.
