Today FM has been voted station of the year, FM104 music station of the year and Radio Kerry Ireland’s top local station at the coveted PPI Radio Awards. Radio’s outstanding achievement award was, for the first time ever, presented to two people –  Lisa Ni Choisdealbha of Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) and RTÉ’s JP Coakley – for their work in bringing Radiodays Europe to the Convention Centre in Dublin earlier this year.

The 2014 Hall of Fame inductees, announced in early September, were presented with plaques to celebrate their induction. The four recipients were Paul Claffey, Mid-West Radio; Tony Fenton, Today FM; Áine Lawlor, RTÉ Radio 1 and Walter Love, BBC Radio Ulster. Former Westlife member Nicky Byrne won the newcomer award for his show on 2fm.

Speaking at the awards show in the Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny, Sean Murtagh, chair of the PPI Radio awards committee, said the night’s honours was the result six master classes held in four cities, 635 entries and 81 judges listening to over 16,000 minutes of audio in 25 judging sessions across four days. Comedian Barry Murphy (pictured) was MC.
