Tourism Ireland has unveiled a new online film fronted by George RR Martin, author of the Song of Ice and Fire saga, the books that became the HBO TV megahit Game of Thrones (GoT). Martin was in Ireland last month to be honoured by the An Post Irish Book Awards and made a visit to Castle Ward in Co Down, where some of GoT scenes were filmed.
Martin was interviewed on video and asked what it was like to return to the locations which brought the characters, scenes and stories in his books so vividly to life on screen for GoT. The video showcases the beautiful landscapes and some of the filming locations, including Binevenagh, Downhill Beach, Castle ward, Carnlough and Tollymore Forest.
Tourism Ireland’s message to Game of Thrones fans worldwide is that Westeros and its Seven Kingdoms are real and that as one of GoT‘s key filming locations, the North is a place where fantasy comes to life. The film is promoted through social platforms, including Tourism Ireland’s 4.4 million fans worldwide on Facebook, 522,000 followers on Twitter and YouTube.
