Wrong royal title in Failte Ireland ads

Queen Elizabeth

Fáilte Ireland has admitted it used “the wrong tapes” for radio ads to promote this month’s State visit by British monarch Queen Elizabeth II. The ads that went to air accidentally downgraded the Queen to princess by referring to her as “Her Royal Highness (HRH)” instead of “Her Majesty (HM)”, The Irish Times reports.

The ad was broadcast on various national stations including the country’s top radio show, Morning Ireland, on RTE Radio 1. The mistake also featured on the Discover Ireland website, claiming that “HRH Queen Elizabeth II will make an official visit to Ireland”. The errors were spotted and a new radio ad was recorded.

The website was amended by early afternoon yesterday to refer to “HM Queen Elizabeth II”.
