Danone launches new range of yogurts

TV and radio personality Lucy Kennedy helped launch Danone Dairy Ireland’s new yogurt range, called simply; Danone. The range is targeted at consumers looking to improve their eating habits and the planet with simple, recognisable ingredients, like milk, live yogurt cultures and fruit and veg combinations, with no added sugar or replacement sweeteners.

The new yogurt comes in fully recyclable pots, a category first for the French dairy brand. It brings the Danone company name to a product range for the first time in Ireland and comes off the back of company research which reveals that the health and nutritional value of products is the most important factor to Irish families when filling their fridge.

Despite price being an important factor, over eight in 10 Irish families say it would never lead to compromises on the nutritional value of the products they buy. Health considerations have never been more important and six in 10 parents look for products with no added sugar/sweeteners, however taste will always lead the way when shopping.

Rachel Doyle, head of marketing at Danone Dairy Ireland, said Irish consumers are also increasingly eco-conscious and take steps to reduce their environmental impact. Danone Ireland found that of the parents surveyed, 64 per cent admit they intentionally try to buy brands that are recyclable and environmentally friendly for their family.

Shoppers are suffering a sense of food label fatigue with almost a third finding nutritional labels hard to make sense of when it comes to making shopping decisions. Almost a quarter of parents believe labels contain too many ingredients, including many they do not recognise. The new Danone yogurt range uses just milk, live cultures and a fruit and veg layer.

Flavour combinations include strawberry and blood orange, peach and ginger, peach and raspberry, mango carrot and banana, strawberry and plain natural yogurt. The new range in available at Tesco and SuperValu stores, with family sharing pots retailing at €2.50 rrp.
