Irish Distillers to make hand sanitising gel
Pernod Ricard-owned Irish Distillers is branching out into the large scale production of hand sanitising gel. The company’s Midleton distillery plans to supply the gel for free to the HSE in partnership with Cork firm Mervue Laboratories. Irish Distillers spokesperson Rosemary Garth said it will use its expertise to help the national response to Covid-19.
The supply of hand sanitisers is scarce during this coronavirus pandemic. As a producer of alcohol, the company decided to get to work to see what was needed to make the gel plan happen, particularly for those who need it most. Garth said they contacted the Department of Health and the HSE earlier this week and the gel plan immediately went into operation.
In a separate development to help with the Covid-19 public health emergency, Chinese tech company Huawei is to send a shipment of medical personal protection equipment to Ireland to help those working on the frontline and ICT solutions which could help with video conferencing, or any other useful applications for those in need of it.
