The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced details of the expressions of interest received for a quasi-national speech/news service and a music-driven alternative rock service for Dublin city and county. The BAI’s contract awards committee sought expressions of interest for both services at the beginning of October.

One expression of interest was received for the quasi-national speech/news service, while two expressions of interest were received for the music-driven, alternative rock service.  The contract for the quasi-national speech/news service is currently held by Communicorp’s News 106 Limited, which trades as Newstalk 106-108FM.

The contract for the music-driven, alternative rock service is with Communicorp’s Dublin Rock Radio Limited, trading as TXFM but formerly Phantom. Competing for the licence is Dublin Alternative Music Group, run by original Phantom director Simon Maher. The BAI will meet on December 15 to advance the application process.
