Carty to step down as Guinness Storehouse boss

Paul Carty is to retire soon from his role as managing director of the Guinness Storehouse and will be replaced by former Aramark executive Catherine Toolan. Carty has been with the Storehouse since its inception, joining as managing director almost two decades ago. In that time, visitor numbers increased  from under 300,000 to almost 1.8 million last year.

Carty oversaw the development of facilities at the Storehouse and led the management and opening of the Smithwick Experience in Kilkenny, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery on James’s Street and the Roe & Co whiskey experience. During his tenure, over €50 million has been invested in the Storehouse which was voted Europe’s top tourist draw in 2015.

He was president of the Irish Tourism Industry Federation (ITIC).

Catherine Toolan (above) will become MD of the Guinness Storehouse from the start of April.

Toolan’s background is in the conference, events, live music and hospitality industry in three continents, including senior roles at catering group in Aramark, which services the Guinness Storehouse. She managed the delivery of the Athletes Village at the Beijing and London Olympic Games. Most recently, she was CEO of the International Convention Centre in Belfast.
