Core hires to expand digital and data services

Justin Cullen, Core Media

Ireland’s largest media agency group Core Media has announced it is creating 20 new roles in its digital and data division. The roles are focused across online media, search, analytics and social media. The news is in addition to the group’s ongoing graduate programme, which will see 10 graduates recruited on a permanent basis over the summer.

The key driver of this growth is the relentless growth in demand for digital and data expertise, services which now account for 40 per cent of Core revenues. The group grew its staff during the recession from 76 employees in 2008 to over 200 employees currently, Core’s digital and data officer Justin Cullen said. The group’s priority was to stay firmly on that curve.

Speaking on Morning Ireland on RTE Radio 1, Cullen said the move was aligned with a shift in consumer behaviour and reflected the need for agencies to have the right level of skill sets. Behemoths like Google challenge ad agencies, but it’s an open market. Spend on traditional media will rise by six per cent this year, while digital will improve by 16-20 points.

Core Media has billings of over €180 million across five agencies – CBW, Mediaworks, MediaVest, Starcom and ZenithOptimedia – and five diversified business units: Radical (full-service digital agency), Ignite (research and analytics business), Publicis Engage (recruitment), Livewire (sponsorship) and Core Knowledge (learning & development).
