Guinness gives Kerry pub goers a festive lift

Hollywood actor Chris O’Dowd has surprised pub goers in Kerry by offering them a lift to local bars. Social Spin is a pilot initiative supported by Guinness and the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) providing car transport to and from local pubs in North and South Kerry with 70 volunteer drivers showing up every day from 5pm to closing time.

The pubs are located in Causeway in North Kerry and Faha in the south of the county.

To drive awareness of the community initiative, Roscommon-born Hollywood actor Chris O’Dowd got behind the wheel and drove some of the local community to Sean O’Mahony’s Court Pub in Faha to show his support for the meeting point initiative. Anyone over 25 years of age and licensed to drive can sign up and volunteer to drive the Social Spin car.

Pub-goers can either call or text the dedicated ‘Social Spin’ number when they want to head down to the pub to meet people. There is no charge for the service, but users can if they so wish give a maximum voluntary contribution of €5 on any given evening.

Causeway is a small village with six pubs – Harty’s Bar, publican Marian Harty; Keane’s Bar, publican, Richard Keane; The Forge, Thomas Diggin; Hopper Inn, David Barron; The Stretford End, publican John McHale; and An Tochar Inn, publican Mary Yallop.
