Health products body invites agencies to pitch

Claire Cluskey, Empirica

The Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA), the body which regulates the sale of medicines for humans and animals along with medical devices and clinical trials, is asking media and creative agencies to pitch for its marketing media services. Previously known as the Irish Medicines Board, the HPRA seeks expressions of interest for strategic and creative services and its media buying and planning.

As it is a new client in the marketplace, there is no incumbent and the HPRA is one of a kind – so no conflicts of interest. The tender is being handled by Claire Cluskey (left) at Empirica, who says the initial spend will be in the region of €180,000 and the creative budget about €60,0000. Communications will comprise public information campaigns and name building awareness. The HPRA client executive is Nigel Fox.

The HPRA has a role in regulating:

  • Human and veterinary medicines
  • Clinical trials
  • Medical devices
  • Controlled drugs
  • Blood and blood components
  • Tissues and cells
  • Cosmetic products
  • Protection of animals used for scientific purposes
  • Human organs intended for transplantation
