Vodafone launches Ireland’s Ball for Rugby World Cup

Ireland rugby sponsor Vodafone has announced the ‘Ireland’s Ball’ campaign ahead of the team’s departure to Japan. In partnership with Gilbert, Vodafone has created a world first ball grip that features the fingerprints of 32 people representing the island of Ireland. The ball will travel to Japan with the team as a symbol of the #TeamOfUs support for Irish rugby.

The TV ad was created by JWT Folk working to Vodafone’s Gerry Nixon and Jane Lawrence.

Contributors to the ball include Maeve Cox (Meath), the first baby born in Ireland in 2019; Ciara Griffin (Kerry), women’s rugby captain; John Burke (Clare), who climbed Everest in 2017; Brian John Spencer a Belfast artist and Matt Ni Grioffa (Connemara), lobster fisherman and founder of An Ghaeltacht Rugbaí, the world’s only Irish-speaking rugby team.

Over the course of the Guinness Series, Vodafone will bring fans closer to the team via social content, ticket competitions and exclusive, instant match highlights for all of Ireland’s international matches on the My Vodafone app. Vodafone has launched a search for one person to present the ball to the Ireland team before they depart for Japan.

The presentation will be in the Aviva Stadium on September 6th.
