'Hangover' gives cinema reason to be fired and emotional

Helped by movie releases like ‘The Hangover’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince’, cinema attendances for the first five months of 2009 were better than the same period last year.
Carlton Screen Advertising/Nielsen EDI reported 7.4 million admissions between January and May compared to 7.2m for the first five months of 2008. ‘The Hangover’, a comedy centred around a wild batchelor party in Las Vegas and starring Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, topped the box office list with €5m in ticket sales. ‘Slumdog’ and the latest Harry Potter tale were joint second on €4m each. The top ten included ‘Bruno’, ‘Marley & Me’ and Clint Eastwood’s ‘Gran Torino’, all three of which grossed €2m each.
