McPartlin involved in digital Irish station start-up

Former Today FM CEO Peter McPartlin is part of a group of music aficionados behind the launch of a new digital Irish music radio station launching this weekend. Called PlayIrish, the station will be available globally on the Irish Radioplayer platform and mobile app. The new station will feature Irish artists, from established acts to up-and-coming artists.

Musical talent from Hozier and Dermot Kennedy to Kojaque and The Gloaming will be selected for curated playlists. Over time, PlayIrish will also host original music shows from top Irish musicians, music industry figures, songwriters and composers, along with content from key events like ‘Other Voices’ and ‘Hard Working Class Heroes’.

McPartlin – who worked in adland with agencies such as Irish International (BBDO) and Carat –  is joined by Sinead Troy, Irish Association of Songwriters Composers & Authors (IASCA) and Yangaroo Music; Liam Thompson, Magic FM Virgin Radio UK, Red FM, Communicorp and Angela Dorgan, First Music Contact and Music From Ireland.

PlayIrish is a not-for-profit venture overseen by IASCA. Its launch was supported by Eir, Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) and RTÉ. Rothco created the brand identity. Scott Williams, chairperson, Irish Radioplayer, said the inclusion of a dedicated channel for Irish music will further enhance the support local radio provides for Irish music.

PlayIrish will be available on the Irish Radioplayer mobile app and at www.playirish.ie.
