Sky sponsors Cat Laughs

This year’s Cat Laughs comedy festival in Kilkenny over the June holiday weekend will be sponsored by Sky it was confirmed at a launch in the Groucho Club in London last night. Described by the Guardian newspaper as “the best little comedy festival in the world”, Cat Laughs is now in its 19th year. The festival is undergoing a revamp and has a new director, Naoise Nunn, a former director of elections for Declan Ganley’s Libertas.

Roscommon actor Chris O’Dowd, star of Bridesmaids and the IT Crowd, will be one of the festival’s main guests. He will be in Kilkenny to premiere the first two episodes of the second series of Moone Boy, three months ahead of its showing on Sky 1. Other Irish acts lined up are Barry Murphy, Neil Delamere (pictured above), Andrew Maxwell and David O’Doherty. Tyrone stand-up Kevin McAleer will perform exclusively in Irish.

Heineken’s Murphy’s Irish Stout was the Cat Laughs title sponsor for many years.

The Sky Cat Laughs festival runs from Thursday May 30 to June 3.
